In the early spring of 2001, Julie Potvin, Judy Deutsch, Janet Weiers, and Ellen O’Neill, seeing a lack of theatrical opportunities for young people and their families in the New Prague area, teamed up to create Generations Theatre Company. They had three main goals in mind when they established GTC:
1) To provide continuous theatrical opportunities for children;
2) To produce quality shows for families with multi-generational involvement;
3) To promote theatrical growth in the community.
Since that time, GTC has seen itself morph into a driving force that New Prague and the surrounding communities still enjoy and rely on for theatrical entertainment.
GTC has produced musicals, straight plays, readings, jukebox musicals that tour area nursing homes, and even “Generations After Dark,” the iteration for adults only. It has entertained at variety shows, street festivals, fundraisers and parades. GTC has cleaned its section of Adopt-a-Highway for over a decade, created a theatre arts camp for youth, and even produced entertainment virtually during the pandemic.
GTC also has given out thousands of dollars in scholarship money. For the Class of 2026, scholarships were awarded to Gabriel Challberg, Dakota Meadows and Ella Schoenbauer.
From our first production of Nunsense in 2001, our productions have included Peter Pan, Steel Magnolias, Fiddler on the Roof, The Wizard of Oz, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, Footloose and dozens of others.
In 2026, GTC celebrates 25 years, and it would not have been possible without the support and devotion of hundreds of theatre-loving people along the way.
Our 25th anniversary show will be our 31st production. Disney’s Frozen will be performed at New Prague High School, July 16-19 and 23-26. We hope you can join us.
Thank you to everyone from Generations Theatre Company. We hope you’ll join us in “creatively bringing generations together!”
